In signal processing , data compression , source coding ,  or bit-rate reduction is the process of encoding information using fewer bits than the original representation. Lossless compression reduces bits by identifying and eliminating statistical redundancy. No information is lost in lossless compression. Lossy compression reduces bits by removing unnecessary or less important information. The process of reducing the size of a data file is often referred to as data compression.

Pay compression also referred to as wage compression or salary compression is when employees who have been in a job for a long time makes less than new hires in the same position. With pay compression, there are small differences in pay that ignore experience, skills, level, or seniority. You see pay compression happen when starting salaries for new employees in a particular job title are set too close to the wages of your existing workers. In really awful circumstances, the starting salaries exceed what your current employees are earning, even if your tenured employees have more skills and experience. Pay compression can be also be seen between managers and their direct reports. Most people would assume that managers have a higher compensation than the employees they are managing, but if the organization suffers from pay compression, this might not be true, and it can cause issues with your staff.
This course covers the essential information that every serious programmer needs to know about algorithms and data structures, with emphasis on applications and scientific performance analysis of Java implementations. Your company can easily afford to throw hardware at the problem, so your boss asks you whether you can reprogram your servers to do the compression in parallel, taking advantage of the fact that your servers are multiprocessor.
