Because I think when people think about African American communities there are a lot of things that come to mind, but one of the things that does not come to mind I think enough in the mainstream conversation is simply how afraid we are for our bodies. How afraid we are for our children. How afraid we are for our loved ones on a daily basis. The threat of violence is always there. I think about how much of my mental space was possessed with keeping my body safe, how much of it dealt with how I was dressed, who I was walking with, what neighborhood I was walking through once I got to school, how I conducted myself, you know, in the school and not so much you know in such a way that would be obedient to my teachers but in a way that would keep me safe from the amount of violence.

In: English and Literature. One is more of a perception of thought while the other is more of lingering apprehensions in which the sources of may totally be unclear. Many times daily people everyday distinguish the two in many forms. Most people are aware that the science behind fear is a bit different than the science of anxiety. It does go without saying I am no exception to this fact of life.
When I attend college I will have the opportunity to become more independent and to take on new responsibilities. I have always relied on my parents for support, but at college I will be on my own and will have to push myself harder. This will help me to become more mature and will help me grow in character.
Fear is an unpleasant feeling which is caused by the awareness of danger according to me. It is something that everyone has to manage no matter what; fear will be fear. Our lives are significantly formed by fears. We cannot escape from the experience of fear and pain.
